Routine Cataract Surgery With Horizontal Chop

This is a routine case of cataract extraction with placement of an intraocular lens. I currently use the Alcon Infiniti system with OZil through a 2.4mm keratome incision. For wound construction, I like a cut Weck-Cell spear to stabilize the globe which allows for counter-traction and no sub conj hemorrhage or wound distortion. The viscoelastic in this case is DuoVisc. I really like the Jones-Inamura capsulorhexis forcep, which has a nice micrometer allowing for consistent 5.0mm capsulorhexis in most cases. The Chang hydrodissection cannula is excellent for both hydrodissection and rotation of the lens. I prefer a horizontal chop technique on routine cases, which allows for a low CDE, typically in the range of 4-8 for a 2-3+ NSC or less. I always remove the OVD from behind the lens to end the case to try to achieve a consistent effective lens position to ensure a tighter A-constant.
