Hey guys! Today I am super excited to share my leopard gecko bookshelves- all eight of them! I first started using gecko bookshelves back in 2015, and I have built many since then to upgrade the geckos, to make all of the shelves match, and to accommodate the growing family. If you have any questions about the design of these enclosures and how I constructed them, please check out the video linked here: • Gecko Bookshelf | DIY Leopard Gecko Enclosure I will briefly answer a couple questions I am sure I will get: -you can get the plants on amazon or from your local pet store -cork bark can be purchased from expos, pet stores online or in person, or amazon -reptihammocks can be purchased from amazon or your local pet store the kitchen cabinet liner MUST be chemically untreated. Mine comes from amazon and is the brand easy liner. I have received some questions about fumes that are released when the kitchen cabinet liner is heated this is not a concern I have because the heat required for a leopard gecko is so minimal. -the leopard gecko bookshelves are heated with heat tape and each bookshelf is on its own thermostat -the doors for the shelves are acrylic and they pull up and out via the handles at the top -the gold hooks are to hold the doors in for particularly rowdy geckos -ventilation can be achieved by drilling holes or cutting sections out and covering them with mesh -these bookshelves are available from amazon by the brand south shore -here is a video on how I constructed the humid hide: • DIY Humid Hide for Geckos -you can purchase plain calcium carbonate on amazon or at your local health store And there's one last thing I want to address. You might be wondering where the water dishes are. For the past six months, I have not used water dishes in my leopard gecko enclosures. Now, hear me out. When I had the health scare with Benjen, I experimented with my leopard gecko care in a few ways to see if I could figure out what was causing his issue. Unfortunately, I am not sure, but one thing I experimented with was no longer using water dishes. After doing some research, I found that many keepers don't use water dishes, and they simply allow their geckos to lick the droplets of water from their humid hides. This made so much sense to me because I had only ever seen my geckos lap water from their humid hides and never from their water dishes. So, on an experimental basis I removed the water dishes from the enclosures. I have seen no ill effects. I have not seen any signs of dehydration or anything like that. I am not recommending that you change your care just because I did, and I am not saying anyone is wrong for using a water dish in their enclosure. It was just something I experimented with, and because the results were positive, I haven't returned the dishes to their enclosures. Who knows, I might! But because the geckos are still all hydrated, I do not feel the urge to do so. Thanks for hearing me out! Thanks so much for watching!
