In a significant move towards 'Atmanirbhar Bharat', Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has reportedly urged France to ensure that 50% of Rafale fighter jets are manufactured within India. This development follows high-level talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron, focusing on deepening defence cooperation in jet engines and helicopters. The proposal includes a contract for 26 Rafale Marine fighter jets, with an emphasis on local production facilities, potentially in Hyderabad. Additionally, the Defence Minister recently inaugurated the H125 helicopter assembly facility in Vemagal, Karnataka, a joint venture between Tata and Airbus. This facility marks India's first private sector helicopter assembly line, reinforcing the shift from government-led to private-sector manufacturing.
