Yulin, a prefecture-level city in Shaanxi Province, is located in the northernmost part of Shaanxi, at the junction of Loess Plateau and Maowusu Sandy, a transition area between Loess Plateau and Inner Mongolia Plateau, east of the Yellow River and Shanxi Province across the river, west of Ningxia, Gansu, south of Yan'an, north of Ordos, the junction of five provinces in Shaanxi, Gansu, Ning, Mongolia and Jin, with a total area of 42,920.2 square kilometers. As of 2020, the city has 2 municipal districts, 9 counties, and 1 county-level city under its escrow. Yulin is the main production area of Shaanxi miscellaneous grains, rich in energy and mineral resources, known as "China's Kuwait". It has one of the seven largest coal fields in the world, Shenfu Coalfield. According to the seventh census, the resident population of Yulin was 3624,750 at 00:00 on November 1, 2020. Yulin began in the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, and flourished in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. It was the site of the "Yansui Town" (also known as Yulin Town), an important town on the nine borders of the Ming Dynasty, and was given an inscribed monument by the Kangxi Emperor with the words "Two Guardian of the Lonely City, Thousands of Years of Loyalty and Courage". It is a national historical and cultural city, a national health city, a Chinese caring city, a Chinese top 100 city, a national new energy demonstration city, a national ecological protection and construction demonstration city, a top 100 Chinese city competitiveness, a top 10 wealth-creating city in China in 2012, and a "2012 Chinese characteristic charming city Top 200" in 2012, and the most attractive city for investment in Northwest China in 2013. In 2021, Yulin's GDP was 543.52 billion yuan, an increase of 7.9% over the previous year.
