Descorchados 2025What are the best wines? Summary of Patricio Tapia's interview: Today I'm going to give you a preview of the Descorchados 2025 Guide. Those who follow Assunto Vinho know that I use this guide a lot when I talk about South America. The guide's creator, Patricio Tapia, gave an interview to Christian Burgos from Revista Adega about Descorchados 2025. I will present here the best wines from each country. Also a summary of this interview with my comments. Discover the main wine guide in South America. Critics' Notes Which notes should you use to buy wines? Which critic is the best? Conclusions Subject Winebased on our experience and this data Process The work takes place from July to January. Argentina (2 months); Chile (2 months); Brazil (1 month), Uruguay (1 month), Bolivia and Peru (3 weeks). Argentina + Chile (530 wineries); Brazil (50); Uruguay (50); Peru (20); Bolivia (20). 4,000 wines. They visit 90% of the wineries. 1st stage: select the wines, tasting and discussing with the producers. 2nd stage: evaluate all wines blindly. For the first time they included a crop table (5 years). Bolivia Tapia is delighted with them, he gave them a lot of attention. He pointed out that some make wines as they were made centuries ago, but there are 5 producers that are as modern as those from Mendoza, Maipo or Napa. Brazil He said that Serra Gaúcha produces the best sparkling wines in South America. Gave 95 points to the best; Argentina has 3 with 94 points. We have 10 world-class sparkling wine producers. Double pruning (winter harvest): tasted great wines but haven't visited yet. Campaign is more favorable for reds. He thinks that Serra Gaúcha wines are only sustained by tourism (!!!!). Sparkling wines are completely different from Champagne but are also of high quality. He thinks that Serra Gaúcha should focus on sparkling wines and light reds. He doesn't understand how it would be possible, in the same terroir, to produce quality sparkling wines and reds like a Cabernet Sauvignon with 15% alcohol. Uruguay It is considered to have played a relevant role in the recognition of Uruguayan wines. He gave great prominence to Alvarinho, famous for Vinhos Verdes (Minho, Portugal) and in Rias Baixas (Galicia, Spain). Argentina has the most dynamic wine scene in South America. Very high level in several regions: Mendoza (Uco and 1st Zone), North and Patagonia. Mar del Plata is developing a lot and I believe that in 5 years it will have quality wines (Alejandro Vigil had already told me this too). Traditional Malbec (Malbecão is already tired), now what is being valued is the austere Malbec (fresh fruits, lots of structure and less alcohol). He wants Argentina to do as Europe did in terms of place X grape, as many people take advantage of the Malbec brand developed by Argentina. Chile I think that as time was running out, he ended up talking little about Chile. Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon, like Argentine Malbec, is producing fresher, more structured versions with less alcohol. The 2021 and 2022 vintages, as in Mendoza, produced wines that will last for decades.
