Tết Nguyên Đán is the Lunar New Year holiday in Vietnam and other countries in the East Asian cultural region such as China, Taiwan (called Chun Jie), Korea, North Korea (called Seollal) and Japan (called Shōgatsu), Mongolia (called Tsagaan Sar) and East Asian cultural communities abroad also celebrate this Tet. Because Tet is calculated according to the lunar calendar, Tet Nguyen Dan in Vietnam is later than the Gregorian New Year (or Western New Year). Due to the rule of 3 leap years and 1 lunar month, the first day of Tet Nguyen Dan is never before January 21 according to the Gregorian calendar and after February 20 according to the Gregorian calendar but falls between these dates. The entire Tet Nguyen Dan festival usually lasts for about 7 to 8 days at the end of the old year and the first 7 days of the new year (from December 23 to January 7).[2] In Vietnam, before Tet, there are also customs such as "worshiping Tao Quan" (23rd day of the 12th lunar month) and "worshiping Tat Nien" (29th or 30th day of the 12th lunar month). Tet Nguyen Dan is a traditional cultural feature that has been deeply ingrained in the Vietnamese people's consciousness through many generations. Tet Nguyen Dan is an occasion for the whole family to gather and reunite after a year of hard work. Tet is an occasion for children and grandchildren who are far from home to reunite. Tet is also an occasion to show gratitude to parents, grandparents, and ancestors. Note: Fireworks used in the video are manufactured by the Ministry of National Defense and licensed for use throughout Vietnam; Ensure safety when using fireworks. Happy Lunar New Year 2025!
