The United States Embargo on Cuba, pt.3 (conclusion): In the final part of our "Embargisode," we talk about "THE BIG ONE" - The one reason us Cuban cigar guys in the know don't want the embargo against Cuba to end! Say What!? We don't?! NO! We Don't! It has been over 50 years since President John F. Kennedy first issued a full embargo on all Cuban made goods - not just cigars, but ALL Cuban imports, period. Since then, it has been one of, if not the most commonly discussed topic among cigar smokers in the United States - and it's not just about Cuban cigars... The embargo itself has been one of the most influential aspects in molding today's cigar industry - especially on the American side. Were it not for the embargo, would we have all of the Dominican, Nicaraguan and Honduran brands we have today? If not for the embargo making Cuban cigars illegal in the U.S., would they still have acquired the "legendary status," granted to them by so many enthusiasts? Would they be coveted as they are? Today, the prospect of the embargo being lifted draws near, opening a floodgate of questions among cigar smokers of all kinds. Will Cuban cigars be sold in American shops? Will there be new blends by existing companies using Cuban tobacco? Will there be entirely new Cuban cigar brands? Will quality suffer due to a frenzy of buying? Or will quantity drop to a level causing a "Habana-drought," throwing us all into withdrawal!? What kind of problems will arise? What issues do we face? All these questions are being asked throughout the community - and answers are abundant, although fantastically varied depending on the source. Some answers posed make sense. Others are just downright ludicrous. Today, we're gonna do our best to sort it all out - here, on the Dr. Joe Show! So, grab your sticks, light 'em if you got 'em, and smoke with us as we dive into one of the greatest issues to grasp the cigar industry since Columbus landed in Cuba - the U.S. / Cuban Embargo!
