My favorite part of this song is the bridge 0:52 - 1:00. The song deviates a bit from its main chord progression and utilizes the following ones: A#/F - A# - C/G. They set a very dreamy and peaceful mood. I really enjoyed transcribing this one and hope there would be more. As an adult, I would like to provide my own reflections on the movie and its main characters. I like how Mattel's movies suit both for the younger and older audience due to their maturity. I liked they introduced a notion of money and the opportunities they provide. Lumina leaves her comfort zone and obtains her first job (I just love the plot about a country girl coming to conquer a big city). Lumina establishes an important network in the beauty salon which makes her dream come true. People shortly noticed her talent of changing people's appearance in a way even they could not imagine (unlike in the real world where people may be in search of their talent for many years) . However, the movie encourages young generation to "come out of the shell", and be more willing to experiment. The movie also shows that it is hard to experiment without sufficient financial means. After Lumina leaves her aunt and gets a job, she becomes more in control of her life and desires. This is also a subtle message that financial independence and a network are prerequisites (or means) for finding yourself. It is hard to experiment when you are under control of your overprotective auntie ;). Now let's move to my favorite part - side characters. I always love them more because Barbie is somewhat a 'cash cow' for Mattel. She has to always be the best (coolest, most talented, optimistic, sociable, insert another adjective here). She is the role model for younger girls but that kind of perfection is boring and is rarely feasible in real life. That is why I always like side characters better. They are just more natural. So, lets talk about them in brief. 1) Caligo. The way the antagonist are portrayed is quite hilarious and predictable. Caligo has very unattractive facial features (huge lips and extremely wide chin) which could lead to a fallacy that repulsive appearance makes all the people evil. Only good-looking ones could be trusted (hello, Ken?). 2) Murray - a little funny and enjoyable character who is simply not interested in all that royal intrigue. He possesses good memory, stress resistance, eloquent and fluent speech, and, on top of that, has a strong bottom-feeder network (including two, let's say, not the smartest eels). With that kind of leadership skills he won't struggle to find another employer like Caligo. P.S. I love how Murray was surprised at the fact that Lumina was still living with her aunt in her 17's. Come on, dude, she hasn't even turned 18. I understand that you matured early but not everyone is like you ;) 3) Madame Ruckus is a typical business savvy with great deal of experience in the fashion industry. You are very lucky if you get a supportive boss like her. My previous boss wasn't like that at all. She offered Lumina a job solely based on the job interview (without a CV, degree, references, etc.). I think such interviews should be in all the companies :) 4) Fergis. Being nerdy nowadays is an asset. He is going to be a good professional with that strong interest in plants. Even if Mattel portrays him as a nerd, he is the type of people who brings the difference to the world (Tesla, Ford, Zuckerberg anyone?). A very lovable character. 5) Cora. She is a typical Hearth keeper. She is so desperate for relationship that she dates the first guy she meets. Being calm and sweet, her most probable life-time goal is a big and happy family. 6) And, for the final touch, my most favorite character in the movie - Sandrine. Again, Mattel tries to portrait her as a mean and sassy girl with a thick Boston accent (half-barracuda, lol). However, deep down Sandrine is a very ambitious girl, probably the oldest employee in the salon (in her mid 20's, I guess). Looking at your best years passing by at a dead-end job is frustrating. She loves her job but thinks she deserves better. Then comes a 'newbie' who is capable of doing the job faster and better than her. Nevertheless, Sandrine gets over herself and learns from Lumina (mostly, the attitude). Probably, her ambition is to replace Mrs. Ruckus when she is retired or run her own beauty parlour. Finally, she is indifferent to relationship and prefers good food, yet she wouldn't mind getting acquainted with members of the royal family (like Delphin).
