MS Black Belt Prairie with Andrew Ballard and Southeastern Grasslands Institute

Join us and guest, Andrew Ballard, as we discuss Camp Creek Native Plants nursery and a recent site visit in the Black Belt Prairie of Northeast Mississippi - presentation and amazing photography provided by Joel Gulledge. Andrew Ballard finds unique ecological sites in North Mississippi to document plant species and collect seed. He propagates many of these plants to provide local ecotype native species for sale at Camp Creek Native Plant Nursery. Southeastern Grasslands Institute is "a vastly expanded and sustained initiative for the conservation, restoration, and management of native grassland ecosystems." We were thrilled to join in them recently at a Black Belt Prairie Site in Lee County, MS that Andrew recently stumbled upon and has been working to protect. SGI performed work on this site by sampling vegetation plots to collect data on plant species, diversity, density, etc. This data is extremely valuable for conservation, mapping and research of southern grassland ecosystems.
