Doleshwor Mahadev Temple | Jyotirlinga in Nepal | केदारनाथको शिर डोलेश्वर महादेव मन्दिर Doleshwor Mahadev Temple, located in Bhaktapur, Nepal, is an important pilgrimage site for Hindus, particularly those following the path of Lord Shiva. Situated just 20 kilometers from Kathmandu, it holds a key position in the Char Dham Yatra. According to legend, after the Mahabharata, the Pandava brothers sought Lord Shiva’s forgiveness by pursuing him to the Himalayas, where Shiva disguised himself as a bull. While the Pandavas managed to capture the tail, the head of the bull separated and is believed to have landed in Doleshwor, while the rest of the body is said to be in Kedarnath, India. This makes Doleshwor the head of Lord Shiva, a significant and revered site for pilgrims completing their Char Dham journey. The temple, built in the traditional pagoda style, is also known by local names such as Bimaleshwor and Sipare Mahadev. The complex features several sacred elements, including a giant bull statue, a massive Trishul (trident), and water taps, with some parts still under construction. The Shiva Linga at Doleshwor is believed to have emerged at the transition from the Dwapar Yug to the Kali Yug. All rituals performed here, from the morning prayers to the evening aarti, strictly adhere to the customs followed at Kedarnath, ensuring a spiritual continuity between the two sites. The temple’s significance was officially recognized in 2009 when Shree 1008 Jagat Guru Bheemashaankarling Shivacharya, the head priest of Kedarnath, declared Doleshwor as the head of Kedarnath. This connection remained unknown for 4,000 years until the devastating 2013 floods in Uttarakhand, which prompted the head priest to request that prayers be held at Doleshwor. This event deepened the temple’s importance in the Hindu pilgrimage circuit, making it an essential stop for those seeking divine blessings from Lord Shiva. -------------------------------------------------- Video Timecodes: 0:00 - Introduction 0:33 - Travel Route 0:59 - Doleshwor Mahadev Mandir 3:44 - Kedarnathko Sir-Kimbadanti 5:50 - Doleshwor Temple's relation with India 7:04 - Char Dham Yatra 7:33 - Trishul 8:05 - Basuki Naag 8:39 - Nandi 9:10 - Blessings & Festivals 10:15 - Architecture 11:26 - Closing Remarks -------------------------------------------------- Music Credit: Music: Saffron serenade Composer: Patrick Patrikios Music: Raag Hamsadhwani Composer: Sandeep Das, Mayank Raina, Bivakar Chaudhuri Available at: YouTube Audio Library -------------------------------------------------- Thank you so much for watching this video.
