Meet the members of the Event Horizon Telescope: James Maxwell Telescope - Mauna Kea, HI USA Submillimeter Array - Mauna Kea, HI USA Large Millimeter Telescope - Sierra Negra, Mexico ARO12m Radio Telescope - Kitt Peak, AZ USA Submillimeter Telescope - Mt Graham, AZ USA Greenland Telescope - Summit Station, Greenland IRAM 30m - Pico Veleta, Andulusa Spain NOEMA - Plateau de Bure, France ALMA - Chajnantor, Chile APEX - Chajnantor, Chile South Pole Telescope - Amundsen–Scott Station, Antarctica The effort took 7 days of observation, at 64 GB/s, at 350 TB/scope per night. 1,024 hard disk drives were used and generated 5 petabytes of data to obtain an image of the shadow of the event horizon.
