" To this end I labour, striving according to His working which works in me mightily " Col. 1:29 "Why do you do what you do?"- A question that beautifully goes along with the 'Why I believe, what I believe?' statement. And Paul, in Col.1: 20-29 very clearly answers the former, and underlines the answer to the latter. Why did Paul pour out his life so passionately? What does it mean for Christ to live in us—the hope of glory? How do suffering, reconciliation, and spiritual maturity all connect to the mission of the Church? In this profound and spirit-filled session, we journey into the heartbeat of apostolic ministry—as Paul reveals not only the message of the gospel, but the burden, joy, suffering, and power that come with sharing it. The Gospel starts with God, and so does the spreading of the Gospel- Ministry. A revelation of who God is, what His actions and intentions are, becomes the impetus to Paul's believing, and labouring. And that certainly should be ours, no matter the stage or season we are in, as children of God! Ministry is not man-made; it is God-initiated. Paul was divinely appointed, and so are we, in various ways. Every believer is called to serve, not passively watch. The specific dispensation of grace for Paul (Col. 1:25) involved preaching the Word faithfully, declaring the full counsel of God (Acts 20:27). It is of utmost importance for us to understand the revelation, the 'specific dispensation of grace' in each of our lives - that is the only and most important pursuit, for a pilgrim. Wherever Paul went, he sensed people's desperate need for salvation—from the coming wrath (Rom. 1:18). He lived out the Great Commission, compelled by love, proclaiming Christ with passion. He couldn’t stay silent—to him, not preaching was unthinkable (1 Cor. 9:16). Faith comes by hearing so he preached boldly. Evangelism, is not complete without disciple-making, and disciples need to be made whole with the truth and wisdom of God! And the mystery that binds this truth and wisdom is this, the mystery once hidden is now revealed: Christ in you, the hope of glory (Col. 1:27). A Minister’s Heartbeat : True ministers of the gospel carry a spirit marked by- a. Joy in Christ b. Endurance in Suffering (He willingly suffered—not for redemption (Christ has done that), but for the Church's sake (Col. 1:24).) c. Rejoicing in Trials. The Goal of Ministry : The aim is not popularity or comfort—it is to present every person mature in Christ (Col. 1:28). With wisdom and instruction, believers are to be shaped into the image of Christ. This is discipleship in its truest sense. The biggest question, how do we do all this? The Source of Power : Paul’s encouragement, determination, godly disposition of joy and humility, strength of pursuit did not come from himself. He was empowered by Christ, laboring through God’s strength (Col. 1:29). Let us remind ourselves that the Gospel treasure is held in jars of clay —frail humans filled with divine power. As Paul modeled it, we are challenged to live it: with joy in trials, courage in proclaiming, and faithfulness in discipling—until Christ is formed in all.
