The T-90M in War Thunder is the latest Top Tier offering giving insane protection from both the front and sides. The reason for the side protection is Spall Liners. These panels vastly reduce the amount of shrapnel generated once a round penetrates which drastically increases the chances of surviving a hit. The issue with the Spall Liner is it sometimes rewards a player who should have been punished for exposing their side armor. In most cases where a top tier MBT survives a side shot they can turn their turret and shoot back which can be extremely frustrating for the flanking vehicle. Since the latest patch, Spall Liners have been reworked so that they only offer protection after the first shot. The T-90M is a good tank but it's certainly not as potent as the T-80BVM. To me, it feels like a good filler tank for 11.7 but it really doesn't offer anything that the T-80 chassis doesn't do better.
