Developed in the late 1930s, the Amiot 143 was designed to fulfill a range of roles from day and night bombing to long-range reconnaissance and bomber escort missions. However, by the time it entered service, the world of aviation had changed drastically. The aircraft's high-wing monoplane design, complete with a glazed cockpit and fixed undercarriage, may have seemed innovative back in the late 1920s, but it soon became clear that the bomber's speed and technology were no match for the rapidly evolving warplane designs of the 1940s." "During the early stages of World War II, the Amiot 143 was deployed mainly for night bombing missions. While it may have served with bravery, its slow speed and outdated design made it an easy target for enemy fighters. Despite its brave crews, the aircraft suffered significant losses, further highlighting the gap between its intended purpose and its real-world performance."
