How we learn to appreciate food again and meet friendly neighbors at the same time. The award-winning film maker and director of the club "Foodsharing e.V." Valentin Thurn speaks about food sharing and the goals of the first online-exchange-service for food worldwide. Foodsharing e. V. had 17.000 registered users four months after the foundation -- and every week there are 1.000 more. A big range of people -- people receiving social security under Hartz IV, students, but also "lohas", people who are not at all short of money but don't want to throw away food for ecological reasons. It's nice that many people don't only pick up food, but also bring something that they don't need at the moment. Valentin Thurn is a film maker for ARD, ZDF, ARTE and other public channels since 1990. He was born in Stuttgart in 1963, studied German, French and Spanish, is qualified geographer and was trained as an editor at the German School of Journalism in Munich. In 1993 he founded the "International Federation of Environmental Journalists". In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
