It is the most widely spoken language in its family. Central Alaskan Yupʼik, or Yugtun, is a language from the Yupik family within the Eskaleut language group, spoken in western and southwestern Alaska. It represents the largest group of Alaska Natives in terms of both ethnic population and number of speakers. As of 2010, Yupʼik was the second most spoken indigenous language in the United States, following Navajo. It is distinct from Central Siberian Yupik and Naukan Yupik, which are spoken in Chukotka and St. Lawrence Island.
