In a recent case covered by various media outlets, a major Indian MNC is in receipt of a notice for demand of INR 32,403 Cr as alleged non-payment of GST in relation to import of services by the HO from branch. This model is prevalent in the service sector set up and a substantial portion of service sector business is in relation to cross-border transactions. There have been plethora of judgements in the service tax era in relation to service-based industries.
