07/02/2016 ~ Paroisse St-Jean La Valette - France 𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐫-𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐫 Léon Guillou 𝑩𝒊𝒐𝒈𝒓𝒂𝒑𝒉𝒚 Léon Guillou was born on June 6, 1929, in Saint-Brieuc (Côtes-d'Armor) and died on November 18, 2009, in the same city. Coming from a family of three children, he was self-taught and learned music on his own. At the age of 8, he joined as a choirboy in the maîtrise of the Cathedral of Saint-Brieuc. Very quickly, he loved singing and began composing his own works, both liturgical music, still sung in Catholic churches throughout the Francophone world, and secular songs. 𝐈𝐧 𝟏𝟗𝟓𝟒, with some friends from the cathedral choir school of Saint-Brieuc, he created a group: Les Amis du Rythme et de la Chanson (L’ARC). The group gave more than 650 concerts, both in France and abroad, and produced 17 records. 𝐈𝐧 𝟏𝟗𝟕𝟖, he took over the direction of the cathedral choir school of Saint-Brieuc, leading it in numerous performances across Europe, notably at the congresses of the International Federation of Pueri Cantores in Vienna, Rome, Maastricht, and Brussels. In the early 1980s, Monsignor Kervenic appointed him maître de chapelle at the cathedral and head of liturgical music within the pastoral team, resulting in the creation of a diocesan choir of over 100 singers. He had opened the music store Le Diapason, on Rue de Rohan in Saint-Brieuc, and loved composing. His song La Mer, toujours la mer became famous and triumphed in many countries. He was decorated in the National Order of Merit and the Order of Saint Gregory the Great (Knight). 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐨: Sunday Mass of 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐞𝐮𝐫 𝐃𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐪𝐮𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐲, Bishop of the Diocese of Fréjus/Toulon, with the Consecrated Virgins. The Order of Consecrated Virgins has no founder other than the Church itself, which drew its inspiration from the mystery of Mary. This vocation is above all ecclesial. The conciliar liturgical reform reopened this possibility for women living in the world. From the earliest centuries, women were consecrated to God by their Bishop. They lived a life of prayer and service to others while remaining in their family. Thus, in France, Saint Geneviève of Paris was consecrated after her calling by Saint Germain (around 440). After the development of monastic life and later religious congregations, consecrated virgins continued alongside nuns but became increasingly rare. In the New Testament, Jesus speaks specifically of celibacy chosen for the Kingdom of God: "His disciples said to him: ‘If this is the situation of a man with his wife, it is better not to marry.’ He replied: « 𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗱, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗵𝗼𝗺 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻. 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗱𝗼 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗿𝘆 because, by birth, they are incapable; there are those who cannot marry because they were mutilated by men; there are those who have chosen not to marry for the sake of the Kingdom of Heaven. 𝗟𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱, 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱!» (extrait de : Mt 19,10-12.) TEXT french R./ Gloria, gloria In excelsis Deo !
