The year is almost over so it's time to reflect on all the things that happened over the last twelve months. Turns out 2014 was a pretty bad year for gamers and here are five good reasons why! 1. Disappointing games This year’s crop of games has been extremely disappointing. Watch Dogs was not as epic as we thought it would be and the same goes for Destiny. Assassin's Creed Unity has been one of the worst reviewed entries in the series. Thief and The Evil Within sucked and the list goes on and on. Wii U owners did have a good year thanks to Bayonetta 2, Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros but other then that it was pretty grim out there. 2. Gaming drought We expected a bit of a gaming drought right after two console launches but boy were the summer months dry this year. We made shopping guide after shopping guide filled with nothing more than a few indie titles. Being a gamer in the summer of 2014 meant playing old games cause there simply weren't any new titles coming out. 3. Broken launches Broken releases aren't a new thing, but it does seem like we've had a lot of them in 2014. Assassin's Creed Unity is still a buggy mess. Drive Club and the Halo: The Master Chief Collection simply didn't work online when they came out. And Warlords of Draenor had insanely high queue times when the servers went live. Is it really too much to ask for a working product when you hand over sixty bucks? 4. Delayed games At the beginning of this year we thought we were going to play so many awesome games. But we thought wrong. 2014 has been the year of the delayed game. Evolve, Battlefield: Hardline, Batman: Arkham Knight, The Witcher 3, The Division and Quantum Break all got pushed into next year. Guess now we have something to look forward to. 5. #Gamergate While 2015’s release schedule should hopefully wipe away the memory of this year’s game line-up the damage left by GamerGate will be not be so easy to repair. The whole thing started after it got out that a female video gamer designer had slept with a Kotaku journalist. What followed were heated discussions on topics like journalistic integrity, sexual harassment and feminism. Gamergate got the attention of main stream media when it escalated into a series of death, rape and bomb threats against women in the gaming industry. To make a long story short: our hobby’s name got dragged through the dirt in 2014 and that's a damn shame. Do you guys also feel that 2014 has been a terrible year for gaming?
