LMS Jubilee Class makes its first visit to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway with one of the driest starts to spring we've had in a long time. Lineside fires have been popping up all over the country across our preserved lines and also the mainline was severely hit on on the first weekend of April, ironically on the same day that Bahamas was due to haul services on the NYMR. So the question was, how much actual steam haulage would we get before the railway would be forced to turn to their diesel fleet ? The answer was four days. Tuesday was our last day anyway and by then the locos were being eased back after a few days of lineside fires which saw the fire brigade called out on numerous times. Easing back on a 1/49 gradient isn't exactly easy, though the Jubilee made it look effortless while still sounding good. The first two days were about as good as it got performance wise. While the star of the show was Bahamas, two of the railways homefleet were also out in action. LMS Black Five 5428 was seen out hauling the Moorlander dining trains with B.R STD tank 80136 putting on a sterling show too, especially on its seven coach train on Monday. For this video the main focus is on Bahamas and after its exploits on Shap at the end of March is was nice to see the loco in the backdrop of the sun drenched North York Moors. While Bahamas was seen at a more leisurely pace than its last big outing, there was still plenty of effort still required over the heavily graded Moorsline. I hope you enjoy the video.
