Team CANADA soundly defeats Team USA 23-9 to take home the Gold at the World Games, 2022 Men's Lacrosse in Birmingham, AL. A clinic by Team CAN on the synthesis of off-ball movement, precision speed-passing, and transition O generating dominating offense (**look to undefeated Maryland '22 for the American example). Sadly, Team USA was stuck playing Hero Ball with lots of standing around by their off-ball counterparts, complemented by mild transition play & poor ball placement when feeding which undermined what opportunities they did create. This was, from beginning to end, Canada’s game. That was in large part due to the hybrid outdoor-box nature of this international style: 5-on-5, 10min quarters, box-sized field, no long poles, and all-offense. Canada thrived with the tick-tack-toe passing that often left the American’s heads spinning as they drew early doubles causing disorganized defensive rotation that allowed simple dump-offs to the open man for regular pointblank 1-on-1's with the Goalie. In contrast—with each possession, the Americans desperately needed more space to play, more time for O to develop, and more men to create pressure—all of which they lacked. With standing-room-only, it was a fantastic game, a ton of fun to watch, and overall an incredible experience watching the very best lacrosse the World has to offer this far south in Alabama.
