Part - 1 Work with Life Forms Kaushal Bodh Vocational Education Activity for Grade 8 Project 1 Hydroponics: Growing Plants without Soil Farmers work hard to grow healthy food, but rising population increases demand. To meet this demand, forests are cleared, leading to deforestation, biodiversity loss, and climate change. Continuous use of the same land causes soil degradation. Excess fertilisers, erosion, pollution, mining, and excessive irrigation further reduce soil quality and available farmland. In India, about 33% of the Total Geographical Area (109 million hectares) is affected by soil degradation. To promote sustainable farming, the Government of India encourages hydroponics under the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture. Hydroponics (from Greek words hydro = water, ponos = labour) is a method of growing plants in nutrient-rich water instead of soil. It allows precise nutrient control, vertical farming, water recycling, and climate control. It supports sustainable agriculture and urban farming while reducing environmental damage. #kaushalbodh #workwithlifeforms #hydroponics #hydroponicsgrowingplantswithoutwater
