But if you head a little further out, there’s Rama IX Park, built in 1987 to honor King Rama IX on his 60th birthday. It remains one of the largest and most meaningful parks for Bangkokians, a place of both recreation and reflection. What makes it special is how well-kept it is: as neat as Benjakitti, but with the energy of Lumpini. You’ll see aunties dancing to loud music, people training in Muay Thai, and groups of neighbors gathering for exercise. It feels like the best of both worlds. There are themed gardens to explore, from lotus ponds to botanical sections, and plenty of space for picnics. Families spread out mats, kids run around, couples rent paddle boats on the lake. Whether you come alone or with friends, you could spend an entire day here and still find more to see.
