I was watching cataract surgery videos on YouTube and I saw this video from Dr Shannon Wong (@ShannonWongMD ) Austin, Texas that surprised me. During a routine cataract surgery case, he was injecting a dispersive viscoelastic and suddenly some bubbles that were in the OVD pushed with enough force that the posterior capsule ruptured. And then it happened to him again. I have never seen this complication before and Dr Wong has only encountered it these two times over the past 25 years of using the same OVD (OcuCoat by B&L which is 2% hydroxypropyl methylcellulose = HPMC). Watch this video and see how he recovers nicely and still is able to secure place the IOLs, including a single piece acrylic trifocal IOL.
