Les cigales (1889), poem by Rosemonde Gérard with music by Emmanuel Chabrier (18 gen 1841 — 13 set 1894). Sung by tenor Hugues Cuénod, Geoffrey Parsons at the piano. If you look at Chabrier’s musical work, you will have the sense of a very serious man. Also the photos of him portray a man who is surely not an eccentric artist. But he somehow liked to overcome this appearance and he dedicated some of his works to humoristic pieces with animals, as this one. There is also a funny one with pigs and another with birds. If you understand French maybe this will make you laugh while, if not a word is understood, probably you will find it only a beautiful song with a piano part which reminds us of a Chopin’s op.25 study.
