He belonged to the lineage of Tamil saints called Gnana Siddhars, or saints of higher wisdom. He is revered for his divine poetry, especially the ThiruArutpa, and for founding the Samarasa Suddha Sanmarga Sathiya Sangam (movement for pure truth). His teachings emphasized love, charity, and compassion for all living beings, advocating for the worship of a radiant flame as a symbol of the divine. Key Aspects A Gnana Siddhar: Vallalar was part of the Gnana Siddhar tradition, meaning he achieved higher wisdom and spiritual realization. Divine Poetry: He authored the ThiruArutpa, a collection of 6,000 verses inspired by the divine, and also composed musical and prose works. Social Reformer: He was a vocal opponent of the caste system, establishing the Samarasa Suddha Sanmarga Sathiya Sangam to promote universal love and eliminate social barriers. Jeeva Karunyam (Compassion): His primary teaching was Jeeva Karunyam, emphasizing that service to living beings is the path to liberation and ultimate knowledge. Sathya Dharma Salai (Free Food Center): He founded a free food facility in Vadalur to feed everyone without discrimination. Sathya Gnana Sabha (Hall of True Knowledge): He established this hall in Vadalur, a center for his teachings and philosophy. Divine Light Worship: He advocated for the worship of a lit lamp's radiant flame as a symbol of the eternal divine, rather than statues. Immortality: He is associated with attaining a form of deathlessness, a key aspect of the realization of the One Blissful Divine, according to Vallalar Mission.
