Finding an apartment to rent in Italy as a foreigner is not a simple task--especially if you're looking for a long-term lease (which locks in your rent for up to four years). It took me almost a year to find a new 1-bedroom rental (or "bilocale) in the Turin area to call home, and it wasn't because I was being too picky! The rental market is especially tight these days because of the recent rise of short-term vacation rentals; at least in cities like Turin, there are not nearly enough apartments to satisfy the high demand for long-term housing. In this video, I share some of the top criteria I had in mind for my Italian apartment search, including the must-haves, long-shots, and the compromises I had to make before I finally signed the lease and made the move. I know I don't plan to do any house hunting for a while, but I hope this helps if you're looking for an apartment in Italy or just preparing for your future move abroad.
