Frances Nero sings a song which was exceptionally dear to my youth. I remember in 1967. We all went to Miami for the first time and stayed at the Playboy Hotel. In the basement they had a jukebox and people kept playing Attack by the Toys and they all danced to it in a fabulous 1960s style that remained with me to this day. Frances won a talent contest in Detroit in 1965, won a year's recording contract with Motown, and released one single, "Keep On Loving Me". She then recorded for Eddie Singleton's Shrine label, but those recordings never even came out, so she went twenty three years between releases. I wrote our one hit song, which I adore, with Ivy Jo Hunter, the man who wrote "Dancing In The Street". I found Frances in Detroit and she hadn't even recorded for twenty three years. This was the only Motorcity release to cross over to the charts. However, and much to Frances' constant annoyance to this present day, the deal for Motorcity was an exclusive one, and was frozen, with no more releases coming out, and the only way I freed up the entire catalogue was to waive all rights to royalties for Footsteps, so none of us made a penny off it. Sad. But still a wonderful record and a classic, especially thanks to Chris Hill. And to Frances, who died quite awhile back, I'm glad to have given you your only hit record. And because of it, you will always be remembered as one of the Motown Legends as opposed to a one off. You were certainly the Queen of Motorcity. And this classic song which we recorded in 1989 is certainly enhanced by Soren Jensen's amazing 2026 remix.
