The USS SEAWOLF was a World War II submarine lost in action. Located on Pelican Island, north of Galveston, Seawolf Park is a fisherman's paradise with historic landmarks, including the USS Stewart and the USS Cavalla. The Gato class USS Cavalla was commissioned on February 29th, 1944, due to superstition surrounding leap years. It played a crucial role in reconnaissance during the Battle of the Philippine Sea, sinking the Japanese aircraft carrier Shōkaku. After the war, the Cavalla served in the US Navy until it was decommissioned in 1971, becoming a memorial to honor submariners. Don't miss the opportunity to visit Seawolf Park and explore these awe-inspiring vessels! “The Cavalla Story” • USS Cavalla 'The Cavalla Story' Check out the podcast and audio tour that is transforming Galveston into the world's largest free museum! https://www.galvestonunscripted.com/ Support the show: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/jrshaw409 Galveston Unscripted Digital Market: https://www.galvestonunscripted.com/s...
