Elizabeth Donahue, second-year full-time student, prevailed over second-year FlexTime student Jessica Insalaco in the finals of the 43rd Annual Bainbridge Intramural Moot Court Competition held at the Law Center on Tuesday, September 16th before a distinguished finals bench comprised of: Hon. Mark Cohen, New York State Court of Claims (ret.); Cornell Bouse ‘89, Past President of the Suffolk County Bar Association; and Dorian R. Glover ‘96, Past President of the Nassau County Bar Association. The duo argued a timely problem based on a case pending in the New York Court of Appeals concerning the definition of “extraordinary circumstances” required to retain charges against an adolescent offender in Criminal Court Youth Part instead of an automatic transfer to Family Court. Associate Professor of Legal Process Stephanie Juliano received the Judge George C. Pratt Award for contributions to the Moot Court Honors Board. The award is named in recognition of the high standards of appellate practice set by the Honorable George C. Pratt, Circuit Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit (retired) and former Law Center faculty member. Elizabeth Donahue won best brief honors and best oralist. In the competition, named for former Law Center Dean John S. Bainbridge, 2Ls write briefs and participate in oral arguments. Successful competitors are invited to join the Moot Court Honors Board, the Law Center’s elite interschool appellate advocacy team.
