As heartbreaking as the story was yesterday, namely, of the four coffins brought into Israel by the Red Cross from Hamas, that were supposed to be three members of the Bibas family, a young mother and her two young children, it does not compare to the events that have followed... Here are five headlines, that explain what has taken place as well as where we are at with this right now... The day started with this first headline... Headline 1 Bodies of slain hostages brought to Israel after grotesque Hamas ceremony, 503 days since they were abducted alive (The Times of Israel) Caskets said to hold bodies of Shiri Bibas, young sons Ariel and Kfir, and Oded Lifshitz handed to Red Cross, then IDF; driven through Israel to forensic institute for ID process There was the initial outrage from Israel when it was discovered that the handover was not only not respectful, but rather a propaganda filled event. Israel threatened retaliation for this grotesque ceremony that took place in Gaza while the four coffins were being handed over... At this stage, the coffins had not been opened and the bodies examined to confirm their identities. Then, in the middle of the night, Israeli time, we have this shocking breaking news story... Headline 2 Body returned by Hamas was not Shiri Bibas — IDF declares ‘serious violation’ as remains of her 2 kids positively ID’d (New York Post) When this story broke in the wee hours in Israel, it seemed like something out of a horror movie. Upon examination, the coffin, which was supposed to contained the remains of Shiri Bibas, instead contained the body of an unidentified Palestinian woman. As the story began to circulate, the horror, outrage, and emotions were off the charts. How dare Hamas do something like this! Where is the body of this slain mother. Next, we had this sickening story to add to the horror... Headline 3 IDF confirms Bibas children 'brutally murdered' in Hamas captivity; third body - not mother’s The two young children were brutally murdered only month after being in captivity. In other words, there was no Israeli bombing on where they were hidden that took their lives as Hamas claimed. Instead, the unspeakable horror was now revealed. This, of course, has caused even more uproar and anger among the Israelis. Netanyahu then spoke about it today, Friday, Headline 4 Netanyahu: Hamas 'will pay full price' for not returning body of Shiri Bibas (Jerusalem Post) "The cruelty of the Hamas monsters knows no bounds," he added. "Hamas will pay the full price for this cruel and wicked violation of the agreement," Netanyahu said. He has threatened that Hamas will pay the “full price,” whatever that means. Sadly, he has made a number of threats like this in the past with nothing substantial really happening. What does he plan to do? What can he do? Tonight, the Sabbath begins in Israel, where everything is basically shut down... Tomorrow six more hostages are to be released...supposedly nothing has changed with this... We then hear from Hamas... Headline 5 Hamas says it is 'surprised by uproar' regarding Shiri Bibas, will carry out own investigation (Jerusalem Post) It also said, if it found Israel's results to be true, it would "call for the return of the body that the occupation claims belongs to a Palestinian woman." Hamas then admitted there was a possibility that there was "an error or mix-up in the bodies, which may have resulted from the occupation’s targeting and bombing of the location where the family was present along with other Palestinians." Hamas then claimed it would carry out its own investigation and would reveal the results. Israel has confirmed, using DNA and forensic techniques, that the body is not Shiri Bibas's. So, what happens next? Will there be another hostage exchange for Palestinian prisoners, including a number of murderers? If so, then what’s next? Obviously, these events have changed the dynamic. What will Israel do? What will U.S do? We won’t know exactly until tomorrow when the final group of living hostages, in this first phase are supposed to be released. We will keep you posted...
