What started as a blown N54 engine turned into one of the cleanest, most satisfying rebuilds on a BMW E60 535i you’ll ever see. In this video, I take my 535i from a dead, oil-leaking mess to a fully resealed and upgraded N54 engine featuring 17T turbos, aluminum valve cover, and high-flow turbo inlets. This isn’t just a repair — it’s a full revival of one of BMW’s most legendary platforms. The BMW E60 535i is powered by the N54 — a twin-turbo inline-six that’s known for its power, potential, and unfortunately, its common issues. The previous engine was completely blown, leaking oil everywhere, misfiring, and smoking on startup. Instead of giving up, I decided to pull the old motor out and build something better, cleaner, and stronger. This video covers every step of that process: pulling the old blown engine, prepping and resealing the new one, upgrading key components, and bringing the E60 back to life with performance in mind. Every gasket, seal, and bolt was replaced to ensure this new setup runs flawlessly. We didn’t just rebuild — we upgraded. The new motor features upgraded 17T twin turbos, capable of delivering more boost and better response than the stock setup. With these turbos, the car can safely make big power while keeping reliability in check. Paired with upgraded turbo inlets, airflow is dramatically improved, helping the turbos spool faster and breathe easier. To keep things cool and leak-free, I installed an aluminum valve cover — a massive improvement over the stock plastic one that’s known to crack and leak. The entire engine was resealed top to bottom, including the oil pan gasket, valve cover gasket, rear main seal, front crank seal, and OFHG (oil filter housing gasket). This means no more oil leaks, no more smoke, and no more headaches. Once everything was sealed and ready, the resealed N54 engine was dropped back into the car. Every connection, sensor, and mount was carefully aligned to factory spec. After countless hours in the garage, it was finally time to see if all that work paid off — and that first start-up moment? Absolutely worth it. Hearing the turbos spool and the engine come to life after being completely blown was a moment every car enthusiast lives for.
