Taking on 10!...I am Black History!

Reaching the 10-year milestone is a significant achievement for any small business, given the inherent challenges of long-term sustainability. According the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, approximately 65% of small businesses do not survive beyond their first decade. For Black women-owned businesses, the journey can be even more arduous due to systemic barriers such as limited access to capital, mentorship, and market opportunities. Only about 3% of Black women-owned businesses are older than 10 years. I am humbly grateful to be a part of that 3%! Despite these challenges, the growth rate of businesses owned by Black women has been remarkable. Between 2014 and 2019, there was a 50% increase in the number of businesses owned by Black women, representing the highest growth rate among female demographics. The resilience and determination of Black women entrepreneurs in navigating and overcoming systemic challenges to establish enduring enterprises is honrable and admirable!
