Congenital anomalies of the kidneys and urinary tract (CAKUT) are a group of birth defects that affect the structure and function of the kidneys and urinary tract. Here are some examples: Kidney Anomalies Renal Agenesis: Absence of one or both kidneys. Renal Hypoplasia: Underdevelopment of one or both kidneys. Renal Dysplasia: Abnormal development of kidney tissue. Polycystic Kidney Disease: Presence of multiple cysts in the kidneys. Horseshoe Kidney: Fusion of the kidneys at the lower end, forming a U-shape. Ectopic Kidney: Kidney located in an abnormal position. Ureter Anomalies Ureteropelvic Junction Obstruction: Blockage at the junction where the ureter meets the kidney. Ureterovesical Junction Obstruction: Blockage where the ureter meets the bladder. Vesicoureteral Reflux: Backflow of urine from the bladder to the ureter. Ureterocele: Cystic dilation of the lower end of the ureter. Bladder Anomalies Bladder Exstrophy: Eversion of the bladder through an opening in the abdomen. Posterior Urethral Valves: Obstruction of the urethra by abnormal flaps of tissue. Other Anomalies Multicystic Dysplastic Kidney: Kidney with multiple non-functioning cysts. Duplex Collecting System: Double ureter on one side, draining a single kidney. These anomalies can lead to various complications, including urinary tract infections, hydronephrosis, and impaired kidney function. Early detection and management are crucial for improving outcomes. #CongenitalAnomalies
