Video Transcript: Philip Russotti: This was a gentleman who fell off a scaffold and caused serious injuries to his calcaneus. He had an operation on his calcaneus with plates and screws which rendered him unable to continue working in a construction industry. But the interesting thing about this case is in preparing the case and going through his medical records I found out that he had gone to a urologist to complain about some problems he was having urinating and with sexual function. What he also had was a herniated disc. The herniated disc was not the major injury in the case, the calcaneus fracture was. But I realize there was a connection between the herniated disc and the urologic problems that he had, and went to the urologist, brought him the MRIs and the records concerning the herniated disc and he was able to determine that, yes, in fact, the herniated disc was pressing on nerve roots which innervated what’s called the pudendal nerve which innervates the penis and was causing the urologic problems that he had. That discovery significantly increased the value of the case. And that was why, together with the loss of enjoyment of life that he suffered by not being able to play with his young children, increased the value of the case and was able to obtain the verdict we were able to obtain.
