Murder in Vilcabamba, a tragic story related to the reality of living in Ecuador

In this video, I share the story of a family in Vilcabamba, Ecuador, who tragically lost a beloved member in a home invasion robbery. A mother of three brave teenage daughters valiantly defended another family member against one of the assailants but, sadly, lost her life in the process. While this devastating incident may raise concerns, I want to emphasize that it is an isolated event and not reflective of Vilcabamba as a whole. Vilcabamba, known as the "Valley of Longevity," offers a serene and welcoming environment that has attracted retirees from all over the world for its stunning landscapes, vibrant culture, and warm community. On the flip side of the coin though, because of recent events similar to this one over the past year, it has become apparent that Vilcabamba may not be the best choice for a retiree at this time. My aim is to encourage future retirees to not let this tragic news dissuade them from coming to Ecuador for your dream retirement and if you want to live in the Vilcabamba region, stay close to town until we begin to experience more positive cultural changes that make it safer to live there.
