Fenix PD40R V2 Flashlight Review

This is part 1 of a two-part #review of the #fenix #pd40r v2 3000 #lumen #flashlight. The first part of this review focuses exclusively on the PD40R V2 and is the basic field test I perform on all flashlights. The second part of the review will be filmed at the LBJ Grasslands near Decatur TX and will provide a comparison with the #tk16 V2 flashlight that I have used for the last year. The UI of this flashlight is a rotary dial, which is unusual compared to most other handheld flashlights. I spend some time in the opening discussing the operation of different flashlights as well as the strategic vs #tactical use of lighting systems. Although the word 'tactical' is often overused, there is a clear distinction between strategic and tactical use of gear, and I provide a couple of use cases in #searchandrescue. After a brief introduction to considerations ranging from carry to grip to UI to beam characteristics to strategic-vs-tactical use, the opening illustrates how my opinion of a light can change, just by altering the method of carry (in this case, handheld vs. mounted). The remainder of the video takes you through a variety of field tests, ranging from lighting up territory at distance to photonic barriers to a heat test. This video was filmed (handheld) with an #iphone 12 Pro Max. All clips were shot one-take with no retakes. A minor amount of post-processing (color correction) was applied to best reproduce what was observed with the unaided eye.
