(26 Feb 2026) RESTRICTION SUMMARY: ++AUDIO AS INCOMING++ ASSOCIATED PRESS Chicago - 26 February 2026 1. Various of people participating in viewing of the late Rev. Jesse Jackson 2. SOUNDBITE (English) Jesse Jackson, Jr., Son of Rev. Jesse Jackson: "Our family is overwhelmed and overjoyed by the amazing amount of support by common, ordinary people whom our father's life has come into contact with. You see, this is a unique opportunity to lay down some of the political rhetoric and to lay down some of the division that deeply divides our country, and to reflect upon a man who brought people together, brought people together not only in the city of Chicago, but around our country and around the world. And so shortly, we will be opening up the front doors of the Rainbow PUSH Coalition for people who are lining up by the hundreds just to say thank you. A man who didn't ask for much. A man who lived essentially a simple life, who opened up his heart, his caring, his concern for all of humanity. And I'm just so proud, we're all just so proud that our father has come this way and that all of the people who are expressing themselves are showing their gratitude for the life that he lived." 3. Various of people participating in viewing of the late Rev. Jesse Jackson 4. SOUNDBITE (English) Rev. Al Sharpton, Founder, National Action Network: "There would not have been a Democratic party the way it is today had it not been for him changing the rules and opening the door to Barack Obama and Bill Clinton. His international diplomacy. What he has done for all of us. I want to be clear. He raised a generation of us. He did it with activism. And he never gave up, even as he was sick of politics, he called me and he came with us with George Floyd. He came with other people. So we come, and this is a personal trip for me." 5. Various of people participating in viewing of the late Rev. Jesse Jackson STORYLINE: Crowds of mourners lined up in Chicago as cross-country memorial services for the Rev. Jesse Jackson Sr. began Thursday in the city the late civil rights leader called home. The protege of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and two-time presidential candidate will lie in repose for two days at the headquarters of the Rainbow PUSH Coalition before events in Washington, D.C., and South Carolina, where he was born. Family members wiped away tears as the casket was brought into the stately brick building. Flowers lined the sidewalks where people waiting to enter watched a large video screen playing excerpts of Jackson's notable speeches. "Our family is overwhelmed and overjoyed by the amazing amount of support by common, ordinary people whom our father's life has come into contact with," said his eldest son Jesse Jackson, Jr. Jackson died last week at age 84 after battling a rare neurological disorder that affected his mobility and ability to speak in his later years. Remembrances have already poured in from around the globe, and several U.S. states, including Minnesota, Iowa and North Carolina, are flying flags at half-staff in his honor. But perhaps nowhere has his death been felt as strongly as in the nation’s third-largest city, where Jackson lived for decades and raised his six children, including a son who is a congressman. Next week, Jackson will lie in honor at the South Carolina Statehouse, followed by public services. According to Rainbow PUSH's agenda, Gov. Henry McMaster is expected to deliver remarks, however the governor's office said Thursday that his participation wasn't yet confirmed. Jackson spent his childhood and started his activism in South Carolina.
