Nothing warms the heart like a plate of tender Swedish meatballs, simmered in a creamy sauce. This heirloom recipe was my father's and has been a family staple for generations. Full of cozy, comforting flavors. Made with simple ingredients and love, it's the perfect dinner to enjoy with friends and loved ones. 🥄❤️ If you're searching for an authentic Swedish meatballs recipe with creamy gravy, easy homemade meatballs, or a traditional family dinner idea, this step-by-step guide from Emily’s Heirloom Kitchen has you covered. Serve with egg noodles, mashed potatoes, or lingonberry sauce for that extra touch of tradition. Meatballs Ingredients: 1 pound ground beef 1/4 cup bread crumbs 1/4 cup onion, finely diced 1 egg 3/4 tsp salt 3/4 tsp garlic powder 1/4 tsp pepper Oil for browning Creamy Sauce Ingredients: 2 cups beef broth 2 cups dairy (1 cup milk + 1 cup heavy cream for video version; or 2 cups whole milk; or 2 cups heavy cream for thicker sauce; if using low-fat milk, use 1.5 cups to avoid runniness) 1 tablespoon soy sauce 1 cup Parmesan cheese 1/2 tsp salt Ground black pepper to taste Other Ingredients: Fresh parsley for garnish 1 - 12 ounce bag of egg noodles (extra broad used in video, but any egg noodle works) Recipe Steps: 1. In a medium mixing bowl, add ground beef, egg, bread crumbs, diced onion, 3/4 tsp salt, 3/4 tsp garlic powder, and 1/4 tsp pepper. Mix well by hand until combined. 2. Heat oil in a large pot on high. Form meatballs (tip: keep a small bowl of water nearby to dip fingers and prevent sticking). Add to hot oil. 3. Brown meatballs evenly on all sides, flipping as needed (about 5–7 minutes total). 4. Slowly add 2 cups beef broth. Reduce to simmer, cover, and cook 15–20 minutes until fully done. 5. Add dairy, 1/2 tsp salt, pepper, and 1 tbsp soy sauce. Stir to combine and return to boil, stirring often. 6. Add egg noodles (add more broth if needed, but usually not). Stir often for 5–6 minutes to coat noodles in sauce. 7. Turn off heat, add 1 cup Parmesan cheese, and stir until melted. 8. Plate, garnish with more Parmesan and parsley. (Can be made without noodles; try with mashed potatoes and lingonberry or cranberry sauce for variety.) This timeless dish is simple, nourishing, and full of love.
