The Five Pillars of Islam are: 1. Declaration of Faith (Shahada). Testifying that "There is only one God, and Muhammad is his Messenger”. 2. Prayer (Salat). Five times a day, each one takes about 5-10 minutes at dawn, noon, afternoon, sunset and night.Alms 3. (Zakat). 2.5% of your savings to the poor and needy. 20% Mines and oil. 10% crops. 4. Fasting (m). No food, drink or intimate relationship with the spouse during the day time of the month of Ramadan. You are allowed do all of this after sunset. 5. Pilgrimage (Hajj). Trip to Mecca only if you are healthy and can afford it. The six pillars of faith are: 1. Belief in God. 2. Belief in His angels, i.e. Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, Michael, Israfil, Azrael, …etc 3. Belief in His holy books, i.e. Quran, Bible, Torah, ….etc 4. Belief in His messengers, i.e., Mohamed, Jesus, Moses, Abraham, Noah, ….etc 5. Belief in the Last Day, i.e. Day of Judgement where people will go to hell or heaven, or both hell followed by heaven. 6. Respect the decisions made by God, even if you don’t like them. To explain the purpose of life, let us consider the following facts. 1. To explain the purpose of life, let us use the following metaphor. If you have a daughter who comes to you and says “Dad can I get $100” you will then ask “why?”, “because I want to buy you a gift Daddy” she answers. You become so happy and pleased, and then you give her the $100 and take her to the store to buy the gift and give it to you. The money is your money, you own the store and everything inside it, but you are so happy and pleased with her thoughts and feelings. This is exactly the purpose of life, which is to do good deeds and compete in doing these good deeds. 2. People think that this life is everything and this is why they end up confused. The end of this life is not the end of existence. There are two rounds in our existence. Round number one is this life and round number two is the next life, which is eternity. This life is temporary and the next life is eternal. 3. Evil exist because without evil, there will be no good. The good comes out of the evil. Similarly, evil deeds exist because if there are no evil deeds, then good deeds will not exist. It will just be deeds. Good comes out of evil. 4. This life is not fair at all by itself. Many of the super criminals who killed millions of people are not brought to justice. Even if they are brought to justice and executed, how one death is compares to the millions of deaths they caused. It is not fair to take one life in revenge for millions of lives but this is the best we can do in this life. Also, good people die without being rewarded and get buried six foot underground. Bad people die without being punished and end up six foot underground. If this is the end, then how could this be fair? 5. Justice is perfected in the next life. The one who killed millions of people will be killed in hell millions of times, as many as he killed and their future progeny until the day of judgement that were not born because of his crimes. On the other hands, victims will be well compensated. When you will see the kindness that these victims are receiving in the next life, then you would probably wish that you were a victim yourself. 6. How could it be fair that one is born a prince and another one is born for a0 poor family that will starve to death? What is the sin of the one who is born blind to be deprived from his/her vision? In order to appreciate the blessings of having a vision, someone else has to be blind. In order to appreciate feeling safe, someone else has to be living in fear. In order to appreciate having wealth, someone else has to be poor. Suffering, depression and diseases are part of this life so that we can appreciate the blessing of being healthy and safe. 7. God decides who is to be blind and who is not based on this knowledge and wisdom. All these scenarios of unfairness are accounted for and compensated in the next life. 8. God raises the ranks of some people over the others so that they can employ one another. If everyone is rich, then who is going to fix your car, clean your house, pick up fruits, …etc. A simple explanation of the meaning of life and worship is that imagine your daughter asks you “Daddy can you give me $100”. You answer “for what dear”. She replies “because I want to buy you a gift". You happily give her the $100 and take her to the store. She buys you the gift and gives it to you. It makes you so happy. The gift did not add any gains to you for you have already own the store, the gift and the $100. It is the thought that you loved and appreciated so much. This is the purpose of life, is to do good deeds and gift them to God.
