Tobacco Harm Reduction: How Smoke-Free Alternatives Can Help Reduce Harm (2020)

There are 1.1 billion smokers in the world today. Each year, nine out of ten smokers continue smoking cigarettes. Adult smokers, who don’t quit, deserve better access to – and information on – smoke-free alternatives ➡️ https://www.unsmokeyourmind.com/en/ Scientifically substantiated smoke-free alternatives have been proven to reduce harm compared to continued cigarette smoking. That means there’s a huge opportunity to improve public health by eliminating cigarettes. Smoke-free products that contain nicotine are addictive and not risk-free. Therefore it’s crucial these products are regulated but regulation must account for, and keep up with, the pace of scientific and technological progress. Unfortunately, some countries around the world still shun alternatives. Preventing adult smokers from learning about (and accessing) better alternatives to continued smoking means accepting the status quo—namely, that smokers who would not otherwise quit will continue to smoke cigarettes. In this video we explore two case studies from two different countries on opposite sides of the world, where regulation has been updated to embrace the opportunities presented by smoke-free alternatives. Vapes, e-cigarettes and heat not burn tobacco products also known as HTPs are all examples of smoke-free alternatives.
