Essential structural reinforcement was installed in key areas prior to removal of damaged/corroded metalwork. After 50 years of service, a highly detailed examination of the unitary assembly was required. Areas deemed unsatisfactory were cut away. There followed hand fabrication and replacement of panel components with correct gauge, high quality steel while retaining as much of the original material as possible.
