John 12:1-11: Why Wasn’t This Sold?

Last week we saw Jesus bring Lazarus back from the dead after being in the grave for four days. In this passage, Jesus and the disciples are having dinner at the house of Simon the leper, or ex-leper actually. Lazarus and his sisters, Martha and Mary are there. The custom at that time was to eat in a reclining position at a table. Your feet would be out away from the table. We’ll see in our text today that this gives Mary the opportunity to anoint the feet of Jesus while he was reclining at the table. It’s a picture of great sacrifice and great worship.
