HMS M1 was one of the most incredible submarines that Britain ever built. Armed with a massive 12" gun weighing 50 tonnes that had been removed from a battleship the Royal Navy were so concerned that it would be copied by the Germans that they kept it secret throughout World War 1. Very sadly, HMS M1 vanished in 1925 with the loss of her entire crew until it was located by a salvage team in 1967 and then formally identified by a dive team in 1999.
