Pull out from protesters on bridge to wide of protesters STORYLINE Massive crowds filled Egypt's Tahrir Square for a seventh day on Friday demanding the ruling military leadership step down in favour of a civilian presidential council. Tens of thousands filled the streets around the downtown square as news emerged that the country's military rulers had picked a prime minister from ousted leader Hosni Mubarak's era to head the next government. Protesters, already seething over the military's perceived reluctance to dismantle the legacy of Mubarak's 29-year rule, reacted angrily to the news. The appointment was also rejected by thousands of protesters marching in the coastal city of Alexandria. "Leave, leave," protesters chanted in what also promised to be a massive demonstration against Egypt's ruling military council. But others showed their support for the ruling military council, with about 5,000 people staging their own demonstration several miles (kilometres) north of Cairo's Tahrir square, in the district of Abbassiyah. "If he (Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi) steps down who would manage the country?" asked one demonstrator. El-Ganzouri will replace Essam Sharaf, who resigned this week after nearly nine months in office amid deadly clashes between police and protesters calling for the military to immediately step down. Following the televised announcement of his appointment on Friday, el-Ganzouri said that Tantawi has no intention of staying in power and he would not have accepted the job if that was the case.
