This dialogic space explores “Practices, Reflexivity, Positionality " in academic knowledge production. It is part of the first Think Lab of the Postcolonial Hierarchies Network (Hierarchies), celebrated at the Arnold Bergstraesser Institute (ABI) in Freiburg from 5th-6th of October 2022. Chaired by Dr. Adam Sandor, is a scholar from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Bayreuth, this video features Prof. Dr. Andreas Mehler, Director of the Arnold Bergstraesser Institute (ABI) Freiburg and Professor of Political Science at the University of Freiburg; Prof. Dr. Emery Mudinga, Director of Angaza Institute at the Institut Supérieur de Développement Rural de Bukavu (ISDR) in Democratic Republic of Congo; as well as Dr. Viviana García-Pinzón and Fabricio Rodríguez, both senior researchers at ABI Freiburg. Emery Mudinga discusses what it has meant for his personal trajectory to live and do research in a conflict-affected setting; Fabricio Rodríguez refers to the dialogic learning process that the Bukavu Series has elicited for discussions on positionality and reflexivity in the Hierarchies network; Viviana García Pinzón addresses the ethical implications of research in the field of peace and conflict, asking what kind of reflections require attention, if a reproduction of epistemic hierarchies are to be avoided and confronted; Andreas Mehler reflects upon different legacies and practices of violence as well as memory politics as possible fields of discussion in terms of ‘postcolonial hierarchies.’ The presentations are followed by a critical commentary on behalf of Roxana Willis, a scholar from London School of Economics (formerly Oxford University), currently a fellow at the Freiburg Institute of Advanced Studies (FRIAS) and Principal Investigator of the Cameroon Conflict Research Group. ~~~~~~ The project Postcolonial Hierarchies in Peace & Conflict (Hierarchies) is a collaborative network of the Arnold Bergstraesser Institute (ABI) Freiburg, the Center for Conflict Studies at the Philipps University Marburg, the University of Bayreuth & the University of Erfurt. Hierarchies is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) over a period of four years (2022-2026). ~~~~~~ To learn more, you can explore the following pieces of featured research and other links: Sandor, Adam. 2020. “The Power of Rumour(s) in International Interventions: MINUSMA’s management of Mali’s Rumour Mill.” International Affairs 96(4): 913-934. https://doi.org/10.1093/ia/iiaa092 Mehler, A., & Nyamnjoh, F.
