Introduction to Liverpool LASER (Leonardo Art Science Evening Rendezvouz)

LASER (Leonardo Art Science Evening Rendezvous) Talks is an international program of evening gatherings that bring artists and scientists together for informal presentations and conversations on art, science and technology. Liverpool LASER is part of the worldwide series of free LASER Talks sponsored by Leonardo the International Society for Arts, Sciences, and Technology (Leonardo/ISAST). The mission of the LASERs is to provide the public with a snapshot of the cultural environment of a region and to foster interdisciplinary networking. Liverpool LASER is hosted by Professor Caroline Wilkinson, Director Liverpool School of Art and Design, and Mark Roughley, MA Art in Science programme tutor. The LASER is supported by the MA Art in Science programme, which aims to bring artists and scientists together to explore collaborative approaches in Art/Science research and practice. Liverpool LASER’s inaugural event explored ‘The Art and Science of Facial Identity’. There were presentations by Gina Czarnecki (artist) and Professor John Hunt (clinical scientist) on their ‘Heirloom’ project; Professor Partha Vaiude (plastic surgeon and director of Surgical-Art UK) on ‘An Artistic Exploration of Facial Topography in Surgical Practice’; and Professor Caroline Wilkinson (forensic artist) on ‘Forensic and archaeological facial depiction and cognitive bias.’ For information about upcoming LASERs check out our Eventbrite page https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/o/liverp...
