Day 6 has us heading down the West Rim to the Grotto. Along the way we experience the epic views of the West Rim. We had to climb around a downed tree. We did a lot of downhill on this day. We make our way to Scout's Landing and Angel's Landing. Unfortunately, due to time constraints we were not able to tackle Angel's Landing this trip. But hey, that means we have a reason to come back. We had to make it to the Visitor's Center by 4:00pm so we could get our Permit for the East Rim. There were lots of people on the trail once we hit Scout's Landing. We were amazed at how many people asked us about our trek. It was kind of obvious we had been backpacking in the back country with our big backpacks. Walter's Wiggles coming down from Scout's Landing was an adventure in itself. Lots of downhill and lots of switch backs. There were lots of people on the trail. It was also a very warm day, which made for a very hot hike on the concrete trail. We were quite happy when we made it to the Grotto. We were able to dump our garbage and empty our Wag Bags (poop). Remember this trip is through the Zion Wilderness, where you are required to pack out all of your garbage and human waste. No Cat holes on this trip. After acquiring our Wilderness Permits for the East Rim our adventure took a little detour. When we got back to our truck, we had a dead battery. Thankfully, a very nice lady in the parking lot gave us a jump. After getting our truck started, we headed to town to pick up a few supplies and get something to eat. We decided to go back to the Lee Pass Trailhead and pick up Dan and Diane's car to take both vehicles to the East Rim Trailhead. Just in case our truck didn't want to start after coming out from the East Rim. That detour made us have a late start at the East Rim Trailhead. We finally got to the Trailhead about 6:30pm. We had to hike in at least 2 miles before we could set up a camp off the trail. It was dark by the time we found a spot and set up camp. Thankfully we had eaten in town so just ate a little snack before hitting the sack.
