One of the most exciting purchases I made this year was the Edelkrone Slider Plus. Having movement in your shots, even if just minimal, adds a lot of value to any shoot. I thought I would write a short review of my first impressions of the Edekrone Slider Plus, straight out of the box. For quite some time now have I been interested in purchasing something like a slider or even a dolly. The main issue was always the bulky size of these rigs, as well as lengthy setting up times. But when I saw the Edelkrone Slider Plus, I was immediately interested. The fact that it is very compact, and also very quick and easy to set up, had me hooked. After receiving my Edelkrone Slider Plus in the mail, I couldn't wait to get it out of the box. I was even more impressed with how small and compact it was at first sight, and how well built it felt holding it in my hands. But as my luck would have it, I found out the day after receiving mine, that the Edelkrone Slider Plus V2 was launched...... I had no idea it was coming unfortunately. As I was planning a bike trip through Namibia at that stage, the Edelkrone Slider Plus was exactly what I needed to take with me, and to easily fit into my camera bag. I set out the next day to go and do some first test. I used a very basic Manfrotto tripod to mount the slider on, an old Manfrotto 501 video head, and my Canon EOS 6D with Canon EF24-105mm lens. I was immediately impressed with the ease of use, as well as the smoothness of the slider. There was however a very slight 'friction point' right in the middle of the slider which caused a bit of an uneven slide. But as I mentioned, I made no adjustments to the Edelkrone Slider Plus at all, and there are videos online that shows you how to fix this problem (and others) with minor tweaks and adjustments. One other slight problem I did notice was that on the end point of the slide, the cameras seemed to drop slightly, creating a little 'down' movement, as if the slider arched or tipped. But after further research, this was also solved making very minor adjustments. My first test subjects were aloes in full bloom, as well as an old Land Rover body, just to try some shots and angles with the slider. This is a short video clip showing my first test result with the Edelkrone Slider Plus, straight out of the box. In conclusion, I think this piece of machinery is a work of art. Yes, it might not be as perfect as some other sliders out there, but for value for money, it is simply brilliant. The fact that it is so small and compact and easy to use, makes it possible to take the Edelkrone Slider Plus with you, wherever you go. The slider is smooth, and the results are very impressive. The creators of the Edelkrone Slider Plus can give themselves a pat on the back, as this is the perfect addition to my gear list, and I am very excited to use it in my future productions.
