In security terms, the Pacific region is becoming increasingly crowded and complex, driven at least in part by strategic competition amongst external powers. This is proving problematic for a region already facing a range of environmental, economic and political challenges. This session took a broad definition of security in the Pacific that encompasses economic, humanitarian, environmental, cyber, crime, defence, and regional cooperation to build resilience to disasters and climate change. Moderated by Caren Rangi, RangiKaitao Services Distinguished Professor Steven Ratuva, University of Canterbury Mark Ramsden, New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade Associate Professor Anna Powles, Centre for Defence and Security Studies, Massey University Sione Tekiteki, AUT Trent Fulcher, Starboard Maritime Intelligence The session was sponsored by EU Delegation to New Zealand and Konrad Adenauer Stiftung.
